Happy January loves!! I’m sorry for the radio silence these past two weeks. I decided to take a break for the holidays and then got sick! What a drag to start 2017 huh?! I know everyone has been sharing their goals, resolutions etc. but I want to do something a little bit different. Of course, like the rest of the world, with the start of a new year I tell myself I’m going to eat healthier, work out more, blah blah blah. But instead of going into detail…..I’ve decided to make a list of easy things I want to do to improve my life! I feel like the reason I fail at my “resolutions” each year is because I try and flip a switch to change my habits, when in reality….it takes much more than that to make meaningful changes.

So here we go…..10 things I want to do to improve my life in 2017:
Do a 10 minute clean sweep of my apartment DAILY. That’s right ladies and gents…I absolutely hate cleaning but there is nothing I love more than a clean and tidy space. In the past I have left all the cleaning for one day. Sunday’s will be my “cleaning day” and when that day comes, it is always so daunting that I end up skipping it altogether. So, every day after I make and eat dinner, I will do a quick sweep of my apartment. Wipe down counters, sweep floors, etc. Hopefully this will keep my mind and home in a consistently clean state worthy of Mary Poppins!
Break a sweat DAILY. Whether that is through a Pure Barre class, long walk after work etc., I want to end each day feeling like I’ve accomplished something towards my fitness goal for the year. I’ve got a wedding to be in this May, and my winter weight isn’t going to get off me alone!
Make my bed. I am usually pretty good about this, but there are always those mornings where snoozing your alarm always sounds better than getting up and making your room look tidy. Especially when you live alone and barely anyone sees it! But alas….I will do it!
Read the Bible. Now this is a daunting and weighty one! After reading one of my favorite blogger girls, Julie’s blog about her goals for 2017, she got me thinking! One of her’s is to read the One Year Bible and it really spoke to me! I was raised Catholic and grew up going to church on Sunday’s, as well as during the week at my Catholic schools so honestly I got a little burnt out on the whole thing. However, I have been wanting to get back in the swing of things and I feel like taking this giant step may help!
Drink water. This is something I have been working on for a while and I have to admit that during the week at work I am a water drinking machine! However, the weekends are a completely different story. I know I don’t have to tell y’all how important water is, but it really is. If y’all need a little bit of a push, download this app called Plant Nanny! You literally track your water intake by watering cute little plants! It is seriously the only thing that motivated me to drinking water when I was first starting out! You’re welcome!

Make time for friends and family. I will admit, sometimes I am the worst at communicating with loved ones. I’m not a huge fan of texting just to text and honestly, I don’t think I have anything exciting to tell people. I also really like my alone time, so having that time to unplug is so nice. However, I know I do need to make more of an effort to chat and meet up for drinks, lunch, whatever…
Edit my wardrobe. If you’ve seen the size of my closet (I shared it here) you know that it is incredibly easy to fill that bad boy up! This year I vow to change my shopping habits to be more strategic. It isn’t about the quantity of clothes you have, it’s about the quality and what you do with them!
Maintain eye contact. One of the most confident things you can do is to look someone in the eye when you speak to them.
Try new things in the ATL. I want to create a bucket list for the city I have called “home” for the past 1.5 years. Whether that is restaurants I want to try, music festivals to hit up or events to attend. Get excited, I’ll probably be bringing y’all along for the ride!
Go to the movies….solo. This year I want to become more okay with doing things that are thought of as group activities alone. Going to the movies, eating a meal at a restaurant etc. I think there is something so strong about a person who can do things they want by themselves.
What are your plans for 2017?!
